Kaya Go boards have been used in Japan before the Tokugawa period and called "The Best Go Board" since then. Among them, many of the most excellent Go boards made from Hyuga Kaya are renowned for its color and fineness of wood grain, however,  the new ones have been rarely produced since the cutting of national forests was prohibited since 2000 due to its scarcity.
