Kamakura-Bori was born from the skills of Buddhist sculptors (craftsmen who carved Buddhist statues) in the Kamakura period, approximately 800 years ago. It is an artwork born of a long tradition of craftsmanship.
These are Kamakura-bori Go bowls, a traditional Japanese lacquerware known for its intricate carvings. In 2025, as South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has personal ties to Kamakura, the Japanese government presented a set of Kamakura Go bowls along with Go stones as an official gift.
